Abstract

The Indian subcontinent has been a region that has nurtured different religions. The rays of Islam spread through the Muslim Sufis in this region and this is the land where a new non-divine religion “Sikhism” flourished. This religion begins with its founder Guru Nanak (1539-1469) who was the first guru of this religion and this series lasts up to ten gurus. Guru Nanak respects all religions beyond caste. Guru Nanak Dev Ji had deep rituals with Muslim saints and Sufis. Sikhism is generally considered to be a mixture of Hindu beliefs and Islam. Sikhism is a monotheistic religion which originated in the Punjab region of the subcontinent because the birthplace of the founder of this religion is “Talwandi, Nankana Sahib”. In this article, there is a detailed description of the background, evolution, teachings, and nature of the founder of the Sikh religion and his relationship with Muslim Sufis.
