This study explores patience (ṣabr) as a fundamental moral virtue through a comprehensive philosophical and analytical approach, examining its meaning, dimensions, and applications within the broader ethical landscape. While patience is universally acknowledged as a cornerstone of moral character, its conceptual depth, motivational foundations, and practical manifestations differ across philosophical traditions. This research investigates these variations, identifying how classical and contemporary moral philosophers interpret patience as a form of self-regulation, emotional discipline, and rational endurance in the face of adversity. Building on this philosophical framework, the study evaluates the concept of ṣabr in Islamic teachings, where it holds a central place as both a spiritual state and a moral practice. Drawing on primary Islamic sources—Qur’an, Hadith, and classical scholarly discourse—the paper analyzes the distinct nuances of ṣabr, including its types (physical, emotional, and spiritual), its ethical functions, and its role in character formation. Special attention is given to the integration of faith, intention, and accountability, which distinguish the Islamic conception of patience from secular philosophical models. Furthermore, the study examines the practical applications of ṣabr in contemporary ethical challenges, highlighting its relevance in personal development, social harmony, conflict resolution, and resilience-building. By employing a comparative analytical method, the research demonstrates how Islamic teachings enrich the philosophical discourse on patience, presenting it not merely as passive endurance but as an active, value-driven moral discipline. Ultimately, this study underscores the transformative potential of ṣabr as a guiding virtue for individual and collective moral life.Downloads
