Abstract

This study presents a comparative analysis of the marital objectives in Islamic and Hindu family systems, focusing on their philosophical, spiritual, and social dimensions. It explores the foundational principles, ethical frameworks, and cultural contexts shaping marital roles and expectations in both traditions. The Islamic perspective emphasizes marriage as a sacred covenant designed to establish mutual rights, promote social harmony, and fulfill spiritual growth. Key concepts such as tranquility (sukoon), compassion (rahmah), and mutual responsibility are highlighted. In contrast, the Hindu family system incorporates diverse traditions rooted in the Dharmic worldview, underscoring marriage as a sacred sacrament (samskara) that upholds dharma (righteousness), artha (prosperity), kama (desires), and moksha (liberation). This paper examines the ritualistic, duty-bound, and spiritual nuances that define Hindu marital objectives.By comparing these two systems, the research identifies points of convergence, such as the prioritization of family stability and spiritual elevation, while also addressing divergences, particularly in gender roles, individual autonomy, and societal expectations. This comparative and analytical approach fosters a deeper understanding of the intricate ways in which these religious traditions shape family structures and marital dynamics. The study contributes to the discourse on interfaith understanding, offering insights into the shared human values underpinning diverse marital systems.
